How You Can Help Activate GVF

For NGOs, schools, volunteers, retirees, influencers, farmer groups, and anyone who wants to help.

The Global Vetiver Farmer (GVF) program learns from many farms in many places. Each farmer, gardener or researcher who registers a vetiver hedge or plant and records one harvest adds to the evidence. Most farmers try something new because someone they trust tells them about it. That someone can be you. You do not need to be a farmer or a vetiver expert.

What GVF asks of a farmer

Very little: register the site online in about 2 minutes, then once a year at harvest, fill in one short form (SVH-1) for each hedge or plant, on a phone, a computer, or paper. Everything is free, and the forms are in English and 14 other languages.

Ways to help

NGOs and projects
Add GVF to your field programs. Train one staff member as a GVF coordinator, and help the farmers you already work with register and record.
Schools and colleges
Plant a small vetiver plot or kitchen garden at school and record it as a class project. Students can help their own families register and record their harvest.

Helping at Harvest

Retirees and volunteers
Become a GVF champion: adopt a few farms or gardens near you, help them register, and help with the form at harvest.

Helping at Harvest

Influencers, media and online groups
Share the GVF page, farmer stories and photos on WhatsApp, Facebook, local radio, or in newsletters.
Farmer groups and cooperatives
Register members together and compare results at your next meeting.
Vetiver nurseries and service companies
Give a GVF fact sheet with every batch of slips, and help customers register their new hedges.
Universities and researchers
Offer GVF sites for student projects using the SVH-2 research form.

A message you can copy and send

Do you grow vetiver grass, or would you like to? The Global Vetiver Farmer program (GVF) is collecting simple harvest records from farmers and gardeners around the world, to show where vetiver helps crops most. It is free, takes 2 minutes to join, and works in many languages. Find out more and register here: http://www.vetiver.org/gvf

What you and the farmers get back

•Farm model guides and fact sheets, free, for anyone who wants to use vetiver well.
•Results shared back with everyone who takes part, so farmers can see how their farm compares.
•The satisfaction of helping build a worldwide, farmer-led picture of what vetiver does for crops.
