Copyright and Use of TVNI Materials

The Vetiver Network International (TVNI) makes information on the Vetiver System publicly available to support education, research, farmer adoption, community development, environmental restoration, infrastructure protection, and other public-interest uses.

Unless otherwise stated, the materials on this website are protected by copyright. Some materials are owned or controlled by TVNI; others were prepared by individual authors, researchers, practitioners, conference presenters, institutions, or other third parties. TVNI’s permission policy applies only to materials owned by TVNI or materials for which TVNI has permission to authorize reuse.

Public-interest use encouraged

TVNI encourages the use of TVNI-controlled materials for non-commercial educational, research, nonprofit, farmer-support, community-development, public-sector, humanitarian, and environmental purposes, provided that:

  • TVNI and any identified original author or source are properly credited;
  • the material is not presented as having been reviewed, approved, certified, or endorsed by TVNI unless TVNI has given written approval;
  • any adaptation, translation, or summary makes clear that it is adapted from the original source; and
  • the use does not mislead others about TVNI’s role, partnership, approval, or responsibility.

TVNI also welcomes copies of translations, adaptations, and field-use materials prepared from TVNI resources so they can be considered for sharing with the wider network.

Professional and consulting use

Consultants, engineers, NGOs, contractors, trainers, and other professional advisers may cite, link to, summarize, recommend, and apply publicly available TVNI materials when advising clients, communities, public agencies, or project sponsors on the Vetiver System, provided proper attribution is given and no TVNI endorsement, certification, partnership, or approval is implied.

This permission does not authorize copying, adapting, repackaging, translating, compiling, or using substantial portions of TVNI-controlled materials as the primary basis for paid manuals, training courses, credential programs, commercial publications, proprietary methods, commercial databases, software tools, AI systems, or other commercial knowledge products without TVNI’s prior written permission.

Uses requiring prior written permission

Prior written permission from TVNI is required for:

  • commercial republication, resale, or platform distribution of TVNI-controlled materials;
  • paid training manuals, courses, curricula, workshops, or certificate programs based substantially on TVNI-controlled materials;
  • use of TVNI-controlled materials in proprietary consulting tools, databases, software, apps, or technical platforms;
  • use of TVNI materials in ways that imply TVNI approval, certification, credentialing, partnership, technical validation, or endorsement;
  • use of the TVNI name, logo, visual identity, or network role in a commercial or organizational context suggesting official TVNI authorization;
  • creation of standards, design guides, certification systems, or credential programs based substantially on TVNI materials;
  • scraping, bulk downloading, text-and-data mining, embedding, dataset creation, model training, fine-tuning, model evaluation, retrieval system development, or other use of TVNI-controlled materials for artificial intelligence, machine-learning, large language model, chatbot, or similar computational systems.

Subject line: Permission request — TVNI materials

Requests should identify the material to be used, the proposed use, whether the use is commercial or nonprofit, the intended audience, whether the material will be adapted or translated, and whether the use involves training, certification, software, databases, AI, or paid services.

No implied endorsement or certification

Public availability of TVNI materials does not mean that TVNI has approved a specific project, design, installation, training course, consultant, organization, publication, product, or service.

No person or organization may claim or imply that they are “TVNI-approved,” “TVNI-certified,” “TVNI-authorized,” “TVNI-endorsed,” “TVNI-recognized,” or acting as an official TVNI partner or representative unless TVNI has provided written authorization.

Third-party materials

Many materials made available through TVNI were created by third parties. Reuse of such materials may be subject to the rights of the original author, photographer, publisher, institution, or source. Users are responsible for respecting those rights and for obtaining any additional permission that may be required.

Accuracy and professional responsibility

TVNI provides information as a public resource but does not guarantee that all materials are complete, current, accurate, or suitable for a particular site or purpose. Users are responsible for evaluating the information, applying appropriate professional judgment, and complying with applicable laws, regulations, engineering requirements, environmental standards, and local conditions.

TVNI reserves all rights not expressly granted above. TVNI may update this copyright and use policy as its licensing, training, certification, partnership, and AI-use policies are further developed.
